GTA 6's Grassrivers region: the Everglades-inspired swamp explained

Flooded grasslands, alligators, and a wildlife-enforcement agency chasing poachers — Grassrivers might be GTA 6's strangest region. Here's what's confirmed.

Grassrivers sits between Vice City and Port Gellhorn, spanning parts of Vice-Dale and Kelly County — flooded grasslands, mangrove forests, and shallow channels standing in for Florida's real Everglades. The name is a likely nod to Marjory Stoneman Douglas's 1947 book The Everglades: River of Grass, and Rockstar's own in-world description leans hard into the region's untamed reputation, framing the alligators as the famous attraction while hinting at far stranger things hiding in the mangroves.

Wildlife is the headline feature here. Trailer footage confirmed alligators and flamingos moving through the wetlands, and official material points to a much wider ecosystem across the full game — one report puts the confirmed animal count at 27 species overall, with Grassrivers as the densest concentration. Standard vehicles can't handle the terrain, which is why airboats exist as an entirely new vehicle class built specifically around this region's flooded, shallow environment.

Two specific confirmed details stand out. Official screenshots show a wildlife-enforcement presence — referred to by fans as POACH — responding to a truck illegally hauling live alligators, suggesting some form of in-game consequence for disturbing protected wildlife. Separately, the region includes the Thrillbilly Mud Club, an off-road mud-bogging venue with ATVs, swamp buggies, and monster trucks, directly inspired by Redneck Mud Park, a real recreational off-road facility in Punta Gorda, Florida.

The tonal contrast with Vice City is deliberate. Where Vice City is neon, concrete, and nightlife, Grassrivers is described as a primordial expanse that resists control — mud, water, and stilted buildings standing above the flood line, broken up by animal calls and the occasional airboat engine rather than traffic noise. Exact mission content tied to the region hasn't been detailed by Rockstar, so treat the setting, wildlife, and the two named locations above as confirmed, and anything about specific hunting or fishing mechanics as reasonable but unconfirmed expectation.
